Ecos was retained to develop a master plan for this hospital and medical office building campus in Hartsville, South Carolina. The 30+ acre site had previously been a flat soy bean field with a high water table which required fill to raise the building pad. The high water table did allow Ecos to design a wet retention pond to function as a water feature along the highway frontage of the hospital property.
The curvilinear parking and access drive layout wraps around the pond and creates a more human-scale environment that mitigates the usual ‘institutional’ feel of a hospital project. Wide, landscaped medians with a heavy planting of trees will provide shade and visual aesthetics for the visitors to the facility. A perimeter road around the project allows for easy access to the medical office building, the emergency department, the service yard and the Central Energy Plant.
Ecos has also been involved in several additions to the building and other site modifications since the project was completed in 1998.
