Klaus Advanced Computing Building - Georgia Institute of Technology
Atlanta, Georgia
The Klaus Advanced Computing Building combines Georgia Tech's Schools of Computing Engineering and Electrical Engineering in a new facility that incorporates the latest green building technologies. The 414,000 gross square foot building creatively uses its 6-acre urban campus site by preserving over 50% of the site as greenspace. The landscape is characterized by a series of engineered bioretention zones that filter the site's stormwater runoff before entering storage tanks totaling 170,000 gallons. Collected runoff will be used to irrigate the landscape and eliminate the need for potable water sources.
The site will be shaded by over 200 newly planted trees that recreate various Piedmont plant communities found within the state of Georgia . In addition, harvested condensate and site ground water will provide continuous landscape water supply during drought.
