The current home of the Atlanta Braves was created through the reconfiguration of the 1996 Olympic Stadium track and field venue. Ecos Environmental Design, Inc. was retained by Turner properties, Inc. to work with the architectural firm D'Agostino Izzo Quirk to develop the plaza and hardscape design, the festival marketplace, and to execute the landscape design.
The large public plaza, a popular place to meet and picnic, fills the void left by the removal of the track and field seating. The peristyle columns, which supported the Olympic seating create the northern boundary of the stadium. Inside the columns a double row of elms acts as a bosque, softening the hard structure and security fencing. The monument grove, which consists of trees and benches, provides the setting for the display of the statues of Hank Aaron, Phil Neikro, and Ty Cobb.
