Miles and Miles of Trails

For over ten years, Ecos has worked with the PATH Foundation on many of their multi-use trails in and around the metro Atlanta area. These multi-use trails are designed for biking, walking, jogging and skating. In the last two years alone, Ecos has contributed to over eight miles of completed trails, with over 30 more miles in the planning stage. Recently, the firm has produced construction documents for trail segments along the Silver Comet Trail, the Arabia Mountain Heritage Area, South Fulton County, and many in-town trail segments

Ecos is working with PATH to close the gap in the Silver Comet Trail.  Currently in planning, there are about four miles of trail that will complete the segment from Rockmart, northwest of Atlanta to Cedartown, Georgia, about ten miles from the Alabama border. Once completed, this will form a continuous trail from Cobb County all the way to the Georgia-Alabama state line, eventually continuing all the way to Anniston, Alabama via the Chief Ladiga Trail. The portions of the Silver Comet Trail that Ecos are currently working on have many scenic vistas and opportunities to interact with nature.

The firm has just completed a nearly three-mile portion of the Arabia Mountain Trail System in south DeKalb County. This trail segment stems from the existing trail near Pole Bridge Creek and Brown’s Mill Road and winds its way north along the Brown’s Mill Road right of way then south towards the historic Lyon’s Homestead terminating at the South River bridge crossing into Rockdale County. Ecos contributed to the design of the 200-foot clear span bridge over the South River, the largest of its kind for the PATH Foundation. In Rockdale County, Ecos is working with PATH on a 13-mile extension of the trail southeast towards the Monastery of the Holy Spirit.

Southwest of Atlanta, Ecos has just finalized preliminary plans with PATH for the South Fulton Scenic Byway. This three-mile trail begins at Cochran Mill Park and travels southeast towards Phillips Road. This trail segment passes through many scenic areas and will allow trail users a glimpse of the area’s natural plant and animal life.  This trail will add many usable miles of recreation for local and visiting trail-users.

In-town Atlanta has seen the addition of several miles of trail as well with the Whetstone Creek Trail.  This trail serves as a link between the existing Northwest Atlanta Greenway Trail and the future Chattahoochee River Greenway in the Bolton Road area. Local residents welcomed the trail, as there was a serious need for more pedestrian-oriented circulation networks in the area. In the Ashford Dunwoody/Marist area, Perimeter Trail is nearing completion.  This one-mile trail links the Marist community south to and through Blackburn Park.  This trail will allow local residents a safer and more environmentally friendly way of enjoying the recreational facilities of Blackburn Park.

Ecos is proud to have contributed to the worthwhile efforts of the PATH Foundation, a non-profit organization dedicated to developing a metro-wide trail system for Atlanta and a network of trails throughout Georgia.
